He puts the scores on the table and proudly expresses what he thinks. The soprano Patricia Trujano Granados questions thatIn a macho society, the female singer faces great obstacles, as, as usual, men are whodo the auditions, grant the papers and impose the conditions.
Faced with this reality, in which he has even suffered harassment, when in exchange for some role or support in his career within the opera they made insinuations of a sexual nature, she has decided not to remain silent: “I have always tried to keep my career as honest as possible., because I believe that art cannot prostitute itself”.
Faced with the impossibility of opening doors in Mexico, decided to seek its development in other latitudes. This is how it came to Europe, particularly in Vienna, Austrian capital, where he has stayed for the last nine years. “We have definitely come a long way in women's rights and in gaining equal ground for ourselves.. But in workplaces like opera, there is still sexism, machismo and abuse of power just because we are women, although it is also in our hands to stop, denounce and show that we will no longer tolerate that. I firmly believe that in future years new operas will have to be composed where the woman will stop being the submissive, the abandoned, the one indicated by the macho society to give it back the place it deserves”.
In an interview with MILLENNIUM Trujano Granados, born in Huajuapan de León, Oaxaca emphasizes that it will continue to open a gap and fight for the rights that correspond to it as an artist, singer and as a woman. “I left Mexico as a complete stranger, penniless, no contacts, but I was always an excellent student. Now I have managed to consolidate my career: in june 2022 I will also title myself conclude, after five years, the diploma in lied, oratorio and sacred music at the Conservatory of Sacred Music in Vienna”. https://www.milenio.com/cultura/patricia-trujano-la-soprano-que-se-fue-a-austria-por-el-machismo?
From Oaxaca to Austria
Back to Mexico in this December season, Trujano Granados is happy after performing on big stages in Vienna, Well, he has sung in places like the Konzerthaus, music club, Peter's Church, world museum, Cervantes Institute, the Embassy of Mexico in Vienna, Theater am Spittelberg and the cathedral in Stephansplatz. At this moment all your attention is directed to the preparation of your next presentation, the 29 from December, in his hometown. It's a beautiful secluded place, though, Regrettably, like many others in Mexico, its population has never been to a theater or a concert hall.
“I love bringing culture and art to the people of the towns. I always say, if they can't go to the theater, we artists are responsible for bringing them closer to the wonders of art”, says the soprano who "would be very happy to sing at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, because he has never received an invitation to do so”. He says that since before graduating in 2012 as an opera and concert singer at the National Conservatory of Music, He returned to his town and made some presentations, despite the fact that her teachers told her not to sing on open stages because her voice was very delicate. “It is incredible to sing to the humble and simple people who come up to me and tell me: 'Miss, I don't understand anything you're singing, but it makes me feel something so beautiful'. That's what I need to know, That is why I offer and will offer this type of presentation so that people begin to know the meaning of classical music”, indicates the soprano. Satisfied that she had the courage and discipline to fight for her dreams, always with a scholarship and with the support of her family, accept that your career is full of sacrifices. Nevertheless, ensures that everything has been worth it: the years of preparation, go on stage, know different countries, but above all, to offer people joy, paz, entertainment and love.
How does Mexico treat you after you return from Vienna??
Returning to Mexico is always an immense happiness and joy: the reception of my family, my friends and my followers, albeit virtually, represent a beautiful welcome. Of course now with the pandemic situation, physical contact has decreased and I know we are all taking care of each other, So I understand that I can't meet all the people I want.
What are your plans for 2022?
On my return to Vienna, At the end of January I will make my debut singing the Solemn Mass in G major by the Austrian composer Franz Schubert. I will also be making the recording of a baroque music cd in Germany and in June I will be graduating in my third degree, a diploma with a specialty in lied, oratorio and sacred music.
From your perspective, what is the future of opera in Mexico??
Great opera singers from other parts of the world have said that Mexico has wonderful and unique voices., but I still believe that support is needed, diffusion, a budget destined to develop and promote this art.

Presentation in Huajuapan de León For your concert in Huajuapan, will perform classical repertoire as well as Mexican songs, among them "God never dies", an emblematic work for Oaxacans. As an artist, she indicates that she feels lucky to have such a beautiful hymn, like the "Mixtec Song", by the Huajupeño composer José López Alavez. Consider that given the loss of so many loved ones in these two years of the coronavirus pandemic, that song takes on more force.
